Your Email

e-Mail
The killer app of the Internet gets a host of compelling new features and capabilities. It's called Mail, and it's a full-featured email application built from the ground up as an integral part of Mac OS X. Add sound, pictures and movies to your email messages. Mail enables you to communicate in ways you've always wished you could - quickly and easily.

Forget that complicated sequence of keystrokes and commands to add a picture, sound or movie to email messages. With Mail, you can drop attachments directly into your messages. Just drag the sound file, Photoshop image or movie to the body of your message, and that's it. It's loaded. Your enclosure is ready for sending.

Express Yourself
Your email can have your fingerprints all over it. That's because Mac OS X Mail gives you a welcome degree of personalization in an increasingly generic world. You can, for example, be almost outlandishly creative with fonts. If your recipients have the same fonts you do, they'll see them the way you send them.

You can even choose different colors to emphasize your point. Of course, you don't want to express yourself with misspelled words. That's why we've included a spell checker. Simply control-click on the offending word, and a popup menu appears offering you correct spellings to choose from.

Convenience Features
Mail is chock full of convenient labor-saving features. For instance, when you start typing in a recipient's name, Mail offers matching addresses from your AddressBook. You press the tab key to pick the one you want, and your email is addressed.

Rules offer a great way to have Mail sort your messages before you even see them. Change the color of a message from your sweetheart or file away messages from your boss into a special folder. How you customize mail is up to you.

More Than Just an Address Book
The Mail application is integrated with the AddressBook application, and that makes for some great convenience features. AddressBook does much more than just store the email addresses of your colleagues, friends and relatives. It gives you digital cards on which to store their pictures, home and office street addresses and phone numbers, and other personal information (such as their birthdays and website URLs).

It's Tool Time
Like many other aspects of Mac OS X, you can make Mail work the way you work. Our finest engineers have determined default buttons in the toolbar - to send mail, go to favorites or attach a file. But you can make buttons for the tasks you perform most often. And if those tasks change over time, you can make the toolbar change, too.

Preview Before You Print
If you're like most people, you probably print your share of messages. Mac OS X takes that capability to the next level with the new Preview mode. When the Print dialog opens, click the Preview button to open the Preview application, and you'll see how your document will look. You can print your document from here - or even save it as a PDF file.
