Fry's ISP Quick Start Guide: Setting up your e-mail Clients

    Important Parameters
  • Dial-up networking connection type: PPP
  • PPP authentication method: PAP
  • DNS server addresses: Click Here. If your operating system supports it, the DNS server addresses will be automatically configured during the PPP IPCP negotiation process.
  • POP3 or incoming email server: mail.frys.com, using POP3 port 110.
  • SMTP or outgoing email server: mail.frys.com (non-promiscious relay) using SMTP port 25.
  • NNTP or news server: Try http://www.Google.com/.
    Setting up Netscape Communicator 4 to use my email
  1. Open up Netscape Communicator 4.
  2. Click on the "Edit"menu.
  3. Click on the"Preferences" menu item.
  4. Click on the triangle next to the Mail Newsgroups line. Some more tree items should appear.
  5. Click on the tree item labeled "MailServers".
  6. Click on "Outgoing mail"(SMTP)server. Enter mail.frys.com.
  7. Click on the Add button. A dialog should appear. If you receive an error message saying "You can have multiple mail servers if they are IMAP servers". You are currently using a POP server, then contact ISP technical support at (408) 487 4622.
  8. Click on "Server Name".Enter mail.frys.com.
  9. Click on "Server Name". Enter your Fry's ISP username@frys.com. If you cannot remember your Fry's ISP username, please contact ISP technical support at (408) 487 4622.
    Setting up Netscape Communicator to use my email
  1. Launch Netscape Communicator.
  2. Choose Preferences from the"Edit"Menu.
  3. Click "Identity".
  4. Enter your Fry's ISP username@frys.com in the box labeled "Your Name". If you do not have a username, contact ISP technical support at (408) 487 4622 to have a new one assigned.
  5. Enter your full email address in the boxlabeled Email Address.
  6. Click "MailServers.
  7. Click [Add]
  8. Enter mail.frys.com in the box labeled "Server Name".
  9. Choose from the popup menu labeled "Server Type".
  10. Enter your Fry's ISP username@frys.com in the box labeled "Your Name". If you do not have a username, contact ISP technical support at (408) 487 4622 to have a new one assigned.
  11. Check the box labeled "Remember Password".
  12. Click [OK].
  13. Enter mail.frys.com in the box labeled "Outgoing mail" (SMTP) server.
  14. Enter your Fry's ISP username@frys.com in the box labeled "Outgoing mail server user name". If you do not have a username, contact ISP technical support at (408) 487 4622 to have a new one assigned.
    How do I check my email using Netscape Messenger?
  1. Start Netscape as you normally would,such as by double-clicking the Netscape icon on your Desktop.
    A website may automatically load. If so, you are up and running on the web! If no website loads, then click in the box labeled "Location" and enter a world wide web address, such ashttp://www.frys.com/.
  2. To check your email, choose "Messenger"from the Communicator menu.
  3. Choose Get New Messages from the File menu (or typeCommand-T). Messenger will automatically retrieve any email messages you have waiting on the Fry's ISP email server and send any email messages you have queued for delivery.If you have new messages to read, they will appear in the Messenger window. To preview a message, single-click the message. To open that message, double click the message.
    Setting up Microsoft Outlook Express 5 to use my email
  1. Open up Microsoft Outlook Express version 5.
  2. Click on the "Tools" menu.
  3. Click the "Accounts" menu item.
  4. Click [Add]. A pop-up menu will open.
  5. Click on the "Mail" menu item.
  6. A dialog will appear. Enter your full name in the text box labeled Display name. This will be used as the sender's name in all email that you send. If you do not want your real name to be sent in your email for privacy reasons, enter a handle or screen name as desired.
  7. Click on the option labeled I already have an e-mail address that I'd like to use.
  8. Enter username@frys.com,where username is the e-mail name that you chose when you signed up for the Fry's ISP service. If you cannot remember your Fry's ISP e-mail name, please call ISP technical support at (408) 487 4622 for assistance.

  10. In the next window, select "POP3" as the type of mail server.
  11. In the text boxes labeled incoming (POP3) and outgoing (SMTP), enter mail.frys.com.
  12. Enter your Fry's ISP email address in the text box labeled Account Name. Your Fry's ISP email address is username@frys.com. Your username is usually your first name, a period, and then your last name. For example, if your first name is John and your last name is Smith, then your username is probably john.smith and your email address would be john.smith@frys.com.
  13. Enter your password in the text box labeled Password.If you cannot remember your Fry's ISP password, please contact ISP technical support at (408) 487 4622 for assistance.
  14. Select the check box labeled Forward all outbound mail to the following mail server, and enter mail.frys.com in the text box next to it.
  15. Click [OK].
    How do I use my Internet Service under MacOS 8.5?
  1. Go to the Apple menu and choose Control Panels.
  2. Double-click the Remote Access control panel.
  3. Click the connect button. Under Status the message should say Dialing. You may hear your modem dialing. This is normal.
  4. After your modem connects to the Fry's ISP, the message should change to Authenticating and then momentarily to Connected. After Connected it will list your connection speed.
  5. Congratulations! You are connected and ready to use the internet!
    Setting up Eudora as my email client
  1. Start Eudora as you normally would.
  2. Choose the Settings item under the Special menu.
  3. Click the "Getting Started"icon.
  4. Enter your name in the box labeled Real Name.
  5. Enter your username@frys.com in the box labeled "Name". If you do not have a username, contact ISP technical support at (408) 487 4622 to have a new one assigned.
  6. Enter mail.frys.net in the box labeled "Mail Host".
  7. Enter your full email address in the box labeled "Return Address".
  8. Click the "Hosts"icon.
  9. Enter mail.frys.com in the box labeled SMTP.
  10. Click the "Checking Mail"icon.
  11. Click the box "Save Password".
  12. Click the "Sending Mail" icon.
  13. Make sure the box next to "Immediate Send"is not checked.
  14. Click [Ok].
    How do I get or send my email using Eudora?
  1. Launch Eudora by double-clicking the "Eudora" icon.
  2. Choose "Check Mail" from the file menu (or type Command-M). Eudora will automatically retrieve any email messages you have waiting on the Fry's ISP mail server and send any email messages you have queued for delivery.
  3. If you have new messages to read, a dialog box will open informing you that you have new mail. Click [OK]and your new mail will appear in the "In" window. To read a message, double-click the message.
